Rick Whitt Says:

Google, maybe your expectations were wrong or in fact maybe your expectations were way wrong (160 times is 16,000% wrong… right?). Google is so high on their ability to generate expectations that if their expectations are different than reality the FCC should probably fix things for them so they are right. Maybe Google should get rid of the Guru that created that expectation. 

Maybe Google’s expectations are so far off because they are giving a pay service away for free and eating all the cost on behalf of the customer… novel idea from such a nice information junky.  No per minute charges, no subscriber line charges, no taxes, no fees… doesn’t even sound like long distance at all, maybe the IUB should decide if a Google customer is an end user. Nonetheless maybe Google’s unbelievable offer attracts a different demographic than they expected. In that case maybe they should cut a different Guru on the team or at least real them in a bit.

That happened in August the same time Richard Whitt says the problem started. It’s a blog where a blogger shows how to connect a Magic Jack that can’t call a FreeConferenceCall.com number by using Google Voice. If that’s the case then maybe Google should be writing a letter to the FCC about Magic Jack, a letter that sounds a lot like the ATT letter complaining about Google Voice, because it turns out that Google is just a victim of another anti-carrier…Magic Jack. 

And finally… maybe the company where Google buys its connectivity is charging way too much money for these “100 numbers” because Rick Whitt’s numbers just don’t make any sense.  1.1 per cent of the traffic makes up for 26.2% of their cost?... maybe they should talk to their vendor who is selling them their long distance. Google does not pay the tariff; they pay the tariff plus mark-up.   Maybe they should shop around instead of going straight to call blocking. 

The idea that the FCC needs to fix this is ridiculous. Maybe they find some new vendors and some new Guru’s to create expectations that are a little closer to reality.

As consumers of telecommunications do I or do I not have the ability to call anywhere within the country as long as I am willing to pay the charges associated with calling that destination (even if that destination has a higher rate due to a rural exemption but I am willing to pay that too). 2. David, david david. You and your supporters should be ashamed of yourselves. If you truly believe that the current loophole you are using to provide this service is ok. While I believe that the current regulations that govern the way telephone services are billed are antiquated and should be updated to the 21st century so that telecommunication services can be billed more fairly, I don't feel that your approach is right. What you are effectively doing is perverting what is equivalent to telecommunications welfare for your own profit. The reason this billing situation exists is to subsidize rural phone service to make it more affordable for those people that LIVE there. If you were to open an apartment complex and fill it with the homeless and sign them up for public assistance allowing them to live there under one condition, that they sign over their public assistance checks to you, there would be an outcry and probably lawsuits from the state. People would not support this because it would feel like you were stealing from them. Now with your model the person being robbed is a big corporation so people don't really care as much as long as they get their cut (free conference calling). Wake up everyone stealing is still stealing and eventually someone has to pay the price. So David, you can continue to pump out your little guy getting taken by the big corporation rhetoric to your minions, but I bet at the end of the day, you, like PT Barnum, are laughing and thinking there truly is a sucker born every minute.

I use magicjack but cannot join any conference. I learnt magicjack has blocked the system. I called them and complained only to be told to contact the conference provider to email them at "2connect magicjack@magicjack.com" My question is why should they block my unlimited call?

MagicJack is not to blame, neither is any other carrier. "Free" Conference call bills carriers at an obscene rate which was given to the rural carriers in order to connect to distant customers, instead engaging in this scam. The LD carriers are fighting it in court, but meantime charge the wholesale VoIP carriers (magicJack, Google Voice, etc.) even *more* obscene rates as much as 30c/minute. It's a scam. Don't blame Google or MagicJack for the carriers and "free" conference call scamming them.
